This tutorial shows how you can weave a bead necklace using the cubic right angle weave technique. This forms a hollow bead tube that has 4 sides.
Don’t let this name intimidate you. 😀 It is quite simple to make. This tutorial is vital for making shapes that will be shown in this series.
As usual I will be using big beads in this tutorial so I can take clear pictures.
Start with 4 beads.
Pass needle through the first bead to complete a ring.
Pull tight. This forms a diamond.
Now we will be forming more diamonds using each one of these 4 beads.
Lets start with the bead at the top. We have to add 3 more beads to make the next diamond.
Pick up 3 beads with needle and close that ring by passing needle through the first bead again.
Now let us make another diamond using the next purple bead.
First pass the needle through this purple bead.
Diamonds will share beads with the adjacent diamonds. So we will pick up only 2 green beads and share one bead with the previous diamond.
At this stage, it will look like this.
Now pass needle through the 3rd purple bead. Then pick up 2 new beads and complete the diamond.
As usual sharing bead with previous diamond
Now we are ready for the final diamond in this row.
Pass needle through the 4th purple bead.
The 4th diamond will be sharing beads with 1st and 3rd diamonds on both sides.
So we will be picking up only one bead.
Complete ring by passing needle again through the purple bead.
When you pull tight, you will see that the beads are forming a vertical tube shape.
Notice the beads at right angles to each other? Hence the name.
Pass through beads and bring the needle to the top and now weave through all the 4 beads at the top.
This will hold the beads in place and give proper shape to the tube.
You can see how I have made one full circle.
We just have to repeat the same procedure shown above to add more rows and increase the length of the necklace. All you have to do is remember the 4 diamonds that you have to form in each row.
For the first diamond, we pick up 3 beads.
It will be a little sloppy and shapeless at first. But after a few rows, it will get easier. I had to use a needle to pick it up and show the diamond shape.
See how it falls to the sides? Now we start the next diamond. We will pick up only 2 beads this time.
Again for the 3rd diamond, we will be picking up only 2 beads.
For the 4th diamond, we will pick up only 1 bead.
Once all the 4 diamonds are done, pull tight.
This is how the beaded tube will look like from the side.
As shown below, bring needle to the top and weave through all the 4 beads at the very top to hold everything together.
If the tension is correct, this will stand upright easily. The cubic right angle weave is useful for making animal legs and furniture legs in 3D shapes.
Keep adding rows. If you are new to beading, it will be easier if you use different color beads for each row like I have done in this demo.
This can make a flexible necklace.
