This is the gooseberry knot or amla knot or nellikai knot used for making wire baskets. Baskets made with this knot are more closely knit than baskets made with other knots.
I am going to use 3 different colors so it will be easy to follow the steps.
Make two loops like shown below. Fold white first and then wrap red around it.
We now have two loops. In this knot, we will be making loops and passing wires through them.
Wrap the third wire around the two loops like shown below.
Now fold the back side of the third (green) wire and pass it through the first two loops. But don’t pull all the way through. Green now forms the third loop.
Now fold the back side of the second wire (red) and pass it through white and green loop. But don’t pull all the way. This will form the fourth loop.
Next fold the back side of the white wire and pass it through red and green loops.
Pull all the 6 wires tight.
Amla / Nellikai knot is ready.
To add more knots to this first knot, the horizontal line will be the running wire. The first loop will be made with this.
