I am a DIY person and Montessori materials are very expensive. So here is the method for DIY Montessori counting beads bars. This is a math manipulative that can be used to teach math concepts to preschoolers.

You will need beads and RCA cable.

Beads – 10 different colors preferably 100 each as we will be making 10 bars in each color.

I have used pony beads but you can use any bead that is available.

RCA cables can be purchased in any electrical shop or walmart. Split the cable into two.

Make a knot, lace the bead, make another knot. Pull tight and snip the extra length of the cable.

Continue making bars with 2, 3, 4 beads etc.

One set of 10 bars is ready. We will be making 10 sets like this.

They can be stored in compartmentalized boxes just like the pony beads box shown above.

The beads stair helps the child learn that each number is associated with a quantity.
