This is a tutorial for making flowers with plastic wire. These plastic wire flowers are very easy to make and are usually done with left over wire after weaving baskets.
Flower bouquets made with them were popular during the 80s in India 🙂
20 inches is enough for a flower with 6 petals.
Make a ring with this wire by wrapping it around your index finger. The smaller the ring, the better the flower will look. From my experience, if the number of petals exceeds 7, the flower doesn’t look very nice.
I am keeping this ring big on purpose so I can take better pictures. Your ring has to be smaller.
Since I was taking pictures with one hand and holding the wire with the other, I had to tape the ring. I also had to use quilting pin to hold the wire down in another step. You won’t have to use a tape or a pin.
Pull the wire into the ring to form a loop.
Hold the loop down with your thumb.
Pass the end of the wire into the loop and pull it all the way through.
Tighten to form a triangle shape.
Fold the wire to its side like shown below.
First petal is done. Pull another loop right next to the first petal and repeat the steps.
Plastic wire flower is ready.
These were placed in wire flower vases or wrapped around a vertical stand.
Here are some flower vase tutorials if you are interested.
These flowers were also wrapped around a vertical stand that had a circular base (like a kitchen paper towel dispensing stand).
I have no idea what those stands were called or whether they are available in shops now so I will show how it was done using a dowel rod.
Wrap from the bottom and as you go up, start including these flowers. Make sure flowers are equally distributed on sides.
