Portuguese border stitch is a pretty border stitch in which diagonal stitches are woven on a base of straight stitches.
Stitch a base of straight stitches.
We will be making 3 satin stitches between 1 and 2.
Bring needle up near 1. Pass needle under 2 and then 1. This order is important.
For the second satin stitch, repeat the same – Pass needle under 2 and then 1.
For the 3rd satin stitch, pass needle only under 2. Now we are ready to stitch the diagonal stitches.
We will be stitching 2 diagonal stitches.
For the first diagonal stitch, pass needle under 3 and then 2.
For second diagonal stitch, pass needle only under 3.
Repeat the same till the end.
In a similar way, add diagonal stitches on the other side.
