Premature gray hair is becoming a huge problem for our generation because of our stressful lives. Regular consumption of vitamin C rich amla and regular application of hair oil infused with amla can delay graying and even reverse it in most cases.
I am allergic to most chemicals so I have never tried hair dye or hair coloring. So I have been using amla infused oil and kept gray hairs under control.
Method for making Amla hair oil at home
இளநரை தவிர்க்க நெல்லிக்காய் கூந்தல் எண்ணெய் வீட்டில் செய்வது எப்படி
Cut 4 – 6 amla into small pieces. If you live in a place where sunshine is abundant, spread these pieces and dry them in shade for 3 days till the pieces become dry and add them in your hair oil. If you live in a cold place, proceed to the next step.
Heat (medium heat) 150 ml coconut oil in a vessel and add the pieces. You can also use gingelly / sesame seed oil.
When it starts to slightly brown, I switch off the stove and let it sit undisturbed over night. This infuses the amla juice into the oil. Then I reheat the oil (medium heat) till all the pieces are dark brown.
Filter the oil and massage into hair and hair roots. Some allow the amla to fry (low heat) till it is charred / very dark brown. Then they grind the pieces and make a paste and use this dark paste as a hair mask. Some of it is also added to the hair oil. This dark powder is believed to make hair black. Some of the black particles can be seen floating in this oil (shown below).
Amla oil balances pitta and also cools the body.
It does not add any strong odour to hair oil. A few drops can be massaged into hair roots daily without any issues.
