In this tutorial, we shall see how to crochet the puff stitch. Like Bobble stitch and Popcorn stitch, puff stitch is useful for making fabric that is thick and textured.
Start a row of chains (2 chains for each puff stitch). Add 3 more chains to start next row.
Pass hook through 4th chain.
and pull the loop through the chain. There will be 3 loops on the hook now.
To create a puff, we will be repeating the above mentioned steps 4 more times in the same spot.
These are the steps we did.
- yarn over,
- pass needle through chain,
- yarn over and
- pull loop through chain.
So let us continue now. Our hook had 3 loops on it. Now yarn over.
Pass hook through same chain,
Yarn over and pull through. Now hook will have 5 loops on it.
After 5 repetitions, there will be 11 loops on the hook. This number can be varied based on how puffy you want the puffs to be.
Pull through all the 11 loops in one go.
Pulling hook through all 11 loops in one go can be difficult for a beginner. One trick is the turn the hook so that the sharper tip of the hook is pointing down. This way, it will not pull other loops when coming out.
Now we have one loop on the hook. Yarn over.
and pull through the loop. First puff is done.
Chain 1. Place the next puff after skipping one chain.
Puff stitch with many colors. Looks like a pretty rainbow.
Puff stitch can be used to crochet very pretty and warm winter caps and also soft and comfy rugs.
