Raised stem stitch band, a variation of the stem stitch is a 3D embroidery stitch that can be used to embroider a monogram or add texture to surface embroidery. It is quite simple and can be done by beginners.
Add a base of straight stitches
This is a weaving stitch so the fabric will not be plucked when the stem stitches are done. Knowing how to stitch the stem stitch will be helpful.
Add stem stitches like shown below.
Complete that row and anchor to fabric.
Start the next row.
Pack rows till the base stitches are completely covered.
This stitch works well with curves also. Note how the curve is not the same width throughout.
Add the stem stitches. Note how the base stitch is almost covered in some places but still clearly visible in some places.
When you have a design that calls for uneven curves, add additional rows of stitches in the thicker area. Start the rows like shown below and add few rows of stitches in the wider area.
Then add more rows throughout so that the additional threads are in the middle and doesn’t stand out.
Pretty isn’t it?
