This tutorial shows how one can crochet the solid granny square. Tutorial has both crochet chart and step by step pictures.
Here is the crochet chart for the solid granny square.
Start with 5 chains and make a ring with a slip stitch.
Chain 3. This will be counted as the first double crochet stitch. Then add two more double crochet stitches into the ring.
Add 3 more double crochet stitches in the ring.
Chain 3 and add 3 more double crochet stitches.
The ring should have 4 groups of 3 double crochet stitches. End ring with a slip stitch.
To make the slip stitch, pass hook through the chain, yarn over and pull through.
To start the next row, chain 3,
Add a double crochet stitch each on the next two chains.
Crochet 3 double crochet stitches into the space formed by the chains in the previous row.
Chain 3. This will form the corner.
Add 3 more double crochet stitches in the same space.
Each corner space will have 2 groups of 3 double crochet stitches.
Continue the same pattern mentioned above.
And end row with a slip stitch.
To start the next row, chain 3.
Add one double crochet stitch on all chains.
When you reach the corner, add 3 double crochet stitches, 3 chains followed by 3 double crochet stitches.
To make sure you have the correct number of stitches in each row, track the chains formed on top of the previous row.
So for the sides, add one double crochet on each chain.
This is how the solid granny square looks like. There is one more version that uses triple crochet stitches in the corner. Tutorial for that will come later.
